Good for Everyone

Welcome to Indoor Cats: Good for Everyone, a SpayDay HRM project.

Our goal is to spread awareness about the risks for outdoor cats, and why it is beneficial for everyone that they be kept indoors.  By everyone we mean the cats themselves, local wildlife and our neighbours and communities.  You can find more information on each of these topics here: Good for Cats, Good for Wildlife, Good for Our Community.

Some people believe that pet cats belong outside, that they need to roam, that it is cruel to keep then indoors.  We’re not sure where that notion came from, but thankfully times are changing!  We know so much more now – as a community we can do better.

Terrible things can happen to free roaming cats. In our work helping cats and people we see far too many sad outcomes. We see cats who have been injured or killed by wildlife/cars/humans, we see cats who are literally starving to death, and we see cats who have lost body parts to the cold.  No cat is safe outside, ever.

If you still insist on letting your cat outdoors after you have checked our website, at the very least make sure it is spayed/neutered to prevent unwanted kittens and overpopulation, and that it is micro-chipped so that it (or the remains) can be returned to you.  If you cannot afford to spay/neuter your cat and live in HRM, contact us regarding affordable options.

This project was made possible by a generous grant from the CanFel Foundation.
